The Importance of Daily Sun Protection
New research by the Melanoma Awareness Working Group has found that nearly 90% of melanomas are preventable so raising awareness and sun protection education can make a positive impact by slowing the incidence of the disease (which is on the rise).
One of the Working Group’s key themes is to promote photoprotection. In a nutshell, this means promoting the daily use of sun protection, even in countries like Scotland where the sun is not always shining!
The trouble is that, despite the increased awareness of the damage the sun’s rays cause, many people still only think about applying sunscreen when they are abroad in a hot country. Some people also think that because you don’t see the immediate effects of sun damage, their skin will be ok in the future. But, regardless of the heat or sunshine, applying sunscreen daily not only protects you against the risk of skin cancer but also prevents against premature skin ageing.
