Laser resurfacing tackles a wide range of skin concerns, smoothing skin, reducing wrinkles, blemishes and scars. The treatment uses a laser device to direct short, high energy pulses of light energy into the skin, which triggers the body’s healing response to regenerate new, healthy skin.

As the skin is being resurfaced using a fractional beam, it means the energy is broken down and delivered in columnated beams meaning less recovery time for the patient. This can vary depending on the depth of the treatments. A light resurfacing can see the skin red for a few days. A deeper treatment for things such as deep wrinkles and acne scarring can leaving the skin red and swollen for up to a week following treatment. We can also combine laser resurfacing with LED Phototherapy (DermaluxLED) treatments for a faster recovery and a more effective treatment.

It depends on what your goal is and what depth of treatment you go for.  Superficial treatments will achieve a slight improvement each time and if a large improvement is required then several treatments may be recommended.  Deeper treatments have more drastic results and often less treatments are required to achieve the desired result.

The results are essentially permanent following the stimulation of collagen. Patients may want to repeat the treatment on a yearly basis to continue to stimulate further collagen as the skin naturally goes through its ageing process.

A combination of topical anaesthetics (creams) and local anaesthetics (injections) can effectively numb the entire face. We also try to make it as tolerable as possible by cooling the skin with ice packs during the treatment sessions.  The treatment can be performed under mild sedation, if required. However, this is very rarely needed.  After the anaesthetic wears off most people find that they only require to take a simple painkiller such as paracetamol or ibuprofen on the night of the treatment before going to bed.  No further pain relief is required.
