Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment that utilises the skins own ability to regenerate and heal itself. It is a very effective treatment for fine lines, loose skin, uneven skin texture and acne scarring. Unlike laser and light based treatments micro needling is suitable for all skin types and there is usually no downtime.
Microneedling treatments are performed in our Glasgow and Bothwell clinics by our expert aesthetic therapists.
Microneedling is a technique used to rejuvenate the skin by using your bodies own repair mechanisms to remove damaged skin. Microneedling regenerates healthier skin and is effective for improving any fine lines and wrinkles, loose aged skin, and pigmentation. It can improve skin tightness, improve mild to moderate acne scarring and stretch marks. At Clinetix we perform microneedling mainly on the face but can also be used on arms, abdomen, thighs and buttocks.
After the first day you will notice your skin looks a little plumper and firmer. The rejuvenation process that goes on under the skin will continue for a further 6 weeks. During this time you will notice a gradual reduction in fine lines and wrinkles, a tightening of the skin and an improved tone and texture. Pigmented areas may lighten and acne scars will appear smaller and shallower.
The outcome of your Microneedling treatment can be improved and healing times can be reduced by preparing your skin with a home care regime in advance of the treatment. The treatment itself can be enhanced by the use of phototherapy or PRP (vampire face lift). Both LED Phototherapy and Platelet Rich Plasma at the same time as the treatment.
Frequently Asked Questions
How many treatments will I need?
This will depend on a number of factors but typically between 3 and 6 treatments are recommended for most indications.
Is it painful?
Some people may experience some discomfort during the treatment but most people tolerate the procedure very well. An anaesthetic is always used. Usually a numbing cream is applied to the skin for 1hr before treatment but for advanced treatments local anaesthetic injections may be used.
What can I expect when I have a treatment?
After the anaesthetic cream has been removed, your skin is thoroughly cleaned and a microneedling device (dermaroller) is applied to the skin to create thousands of tiny puncture wounds in the upper layers of the skin. Different needle lengths are available for different indications. It usually takes about twenty minutes to perform the treatment to the whole face. During the process the skin may feel warm and tight but it shouldn’t be painful. After the treatment the skin is cleaned and a vitamin serum or gel is applied.
The vitamins soak into the skin directly through the micro punctures and stimulate a variety of healing and rejuvenating processes.
What happens after the treatment?
Your skin will be a little pink or red immediately after the treatment and this can last from a few hours to a day or so depending on the depth of the treatment. You are advised not to touch the skin for a few hours. On the evening of the treatment you can shower as normal and clean the skin with either water or a simple cleanser. You can use makeup the next day. Usually you don’t need to take any time off and can resume normal work and social engagements the next day. For quite deep treatments the skin may feel dry and itchy for a couple of days and there may be a little flaking. You can treat this with a simple moisturising cream.
Are there any risks to the procedure?
Microneedling is an extremely safe treatment. There is a very small chance of infection of the skin following treatment and a very small chance of scarring, particularly with aggressive treatments. If you take any medications that thin your blood such as aspirin, clopidogrel or warfarin you have a higher risk of bruising from the procedure. If you have a treatment and experience any prolonged redness, or pain you should contact Clinetix as soon as you become aware of the problem to be reviewed by a doctor. Clinetix has performed thousands of dermaroller treatments with no serious complications.
How much does a treatment cost?
Treatments usually cost £150 per session when performed by one of our senior therapists, or £250 per session when performed by one of the medical staff (this may be required for example if a deep aggressive treatment is recommended such as with acne scarring) a microneedling session with PRP is a medical treatment and costs £450 per session.

I was warmly welcomed into the clinic. It was a very professional although relaxed atmosphere. I was immediately put at ease, offered a refreshment and shown to a seat. Thereafter, I was introduced to Dr Emma, this lady knows her stuff. I am also a person who is highly anxious regarding needles and pain. I was so confident in her skills and how my treatment plan was communicated to me I was brave enough to do everything. Guess what, virtually pain-free. I had a vast amount of work done. More than I ever imagined in one session. I had a great skin consultation also and purchased the recommended products. We all have budgets and there was by no means a high sales push. I did buy the treatments suggested and it was a large one of spend, however getting it all done in one day is far more beneficial – fewer nerves and an instant result. I would highly recommend this establishment and look forward to my return My aim was to look better but more importantly to feel better. The physical and psychological benefits are amazing!Angela
