Be Kind to Stressed Out Skin

Be Kind to Stressed Out Skin

#StressAwarenessMonth is held every April to highlight public awareness for both the causes and cures for our modern stress epidemic.

Here, at Clinetix, we are passionate about all things skin and so in this month’s blog our clinical aesthetician, Nicola McMullen, takes a look at how stress can affect your skin and how you can be kind to stressed out skin.  Read on to find out more…

Keeping Your Mind and Body Stress Free

There are many things that you can do to keep stress at bay:

• Taking regular exercise will release feel-good hormones that will lift your mood

• Have a good sleep routine to give your body the time it needs to rest and heal

• Eat a balanced diet with plenty of antioxidants

• Avoid eating too many processed or high sugar foods as they trigger inflammation in the body

• Ensure you take some “me” time to do activities that make you happy

• Make sure you are drinking enough water so that your body is hydrated

• And last, but certainly not least, maintain a good skincare routine

How Stress Affects Your Skin

Most people think of stress as a mental condition, which it is, but many don’t appreciate the impact that stress can have on your physical health. There are many ways that stress can physically manifest. It can also play havoc with your skin, particularly if you already suffer from skin conditions.

The stress hormone cortisol can lead to over production of sebum (oil) which can cause acne breakouts. It also exacerbates existing inflammatory skin conditions – like eczema, psoriasis and rosacea – causing these conditions to flare up. But, the good news is, at Clinetix we have vast experience in treating these conditions with clinically effective products and treatments.

Nicola comments One of the aspects I love most about my job is being able to help people who are suffering from skin conditions and seeing the difference that treatment can make to their daily lives as they start to see improvements. Clinetix offers a wide range of treatments, as well as medical grade skincare, providing the cornerstone to healthy skin. The ZO® Skin Health range offers an easy to follow routine for the long-term maintenance of beautifully healthy skin which can be tailored around the patient’s specific skin concerns.“

Be Kind to Yourself

The most helpful thing you can do if you are feeling stressed or anxious is to make sure you are being kind to yourself. We all lead busy lives but taking time to relax is an essential step for your overall health and wellbeing.

Regardless of what treatment people are having, Clinetix aims to make the experience as relaxing as possible by putting you at ease – before, during and after treatment.

Nicola adds: “All of our treatments are effective, but some are more relaxing than others. If you’re looking for a little “me” time then HydraTite is a great treatment to have. HydraTite is a combination therapy which combines HydraFacial with a radio frequency, energy-based treatment called Forma. Your HydraFacial will be customised for your skin type and integrated with the Forma treatment. This feels like a lovely, relaxing, warm massage for your skin. By combining these two treatments, you can have a little “me” time that your skin will thank you for. Treatment will also stimulate your body’s own production of collagen to give a lifting effect as well as tightening the skin to give a more youthful appearance. What’s not to love? ❤️

Not only is HydraTite a great stress busting treatment, it is also a great addition to your skincare regime as regular treatments lead to long-lasting results. For more information on HydraTite, see our website.
