Skin peels or chemical peels are a popular and effective way of improving the quality and appearance of your skin. They can be used to improve fine lines and wrinkles, pigmentation, rough skin surface, acne and acne scarring, pores, and decreased luminosity.
Skin peels and chemical peels are performed in Glasgow and Bothwell by both our expert aesthetic therapists and our Medical Team led by Dr’s Simon and Emma Ravichandran dependent of the medical grade.
At Clinetix we perform a range of skin peels for a variety of common skin conditions. Our most popular treatment, the signature facial and the red autograph facial are actually fruit acid peels that globally improve the quality of the skin. For more specific concerns a course of medical grade peels may be indicated that can address issues like acne scarring or melasma to name a couple. Chemical peel treatments are categorised in terms of their depth, Superficial Medium or Deep. We perform superficial and medium depth peels at Clinetix as part of prescribed skin care program.
Frequently Asked Questions
How long does it take to recover from a superficial chemical peel?
Actually most peels do not require any recovery. The peels that we use to manage most skin complaints are classed as superficial peels and may cause a little bit of dryness of the skin for a few days but it is unusual for significant redness and skin shedding. Almost everyone who has a superficial peel is able to return to work or normal activities immediately.
How long does it take to recover from a medium peel?
Medium peels will achieve faster results with less treatments and are particularly useful for deeper lines and wrinkles, deeper scars, pigmentation and skin tightening. They result in redness of the skin and true “peeling” that typically starts after three days and continues for another 6 or 7 days. Patients having medium depth peels are often do so before a week off work.
How many treatments will I need?
For most skin conditions a course of 6 superficial peels is recommended, between two and four weeks apart. After this a maintenance peel every few months is often undertaken as part of an ongoing skin care regime. For medium peels less treatments are required to reach the desired outcome.
Are peels painful?
Superficial peels often give a tingling or heat sensation on the skin of the face when they are applied that quickly subsides and is well tolerated by most patients. Deeper peels may feel a little hotter and a cooling fan is sometimes used to help make the process comfortable.
I have dark skin, can I have a peel?
Yes you can. Whilst the darker the skin the higher the risk of problems following a peel it is possible to peel darker skin safely with some solutions providing you use an adequate pretreatment skin care protocol. This would involve the use of a SPF and a skin lightening cream.
Can I improve the results of my peel?
Using a skin care regime for at least two weeks before the treatment will reduce the risk of side effects and improve the outcome of all chemical peels. Depending on your skin type and your desired outcome from a peel a regime will be prescribed at your initial consultation.
