Holiday Skincare Survival Guide

Holiday Skincare Survival Guide

Are you going on holiday this Summer? We all know the importance of looking after our skin. But do you know how to take care of your skin whilst on holiday?

It goes without saying that you need to alter your skin routine to meet the conditions you are in. If you are jetting off to sunnier, warmer climates read on to find out our top tips to keep your skin looking and feeling healthy.

Limit Your Use of Active Ingredients

Active ingredients are an integral part of your daily skin routine but when your skin is exposed to the sun you should limit your use of active ingredients. Active ingredients cause rapid skin cell regeneration which in turn causes increased skin sensitivity to sunlight. When you are on holiday focus your use of active ingredients into your evening skin routine.

During your holiday you should also avoid any products with a high quantity of hydroquinone or retinol. Retinoids and hydroquinone can not only make your skin more susceptible to sun damage but due to the vulnerability of your skin, chronic exposure to sunlight could actually cause the formation of free radicals that damage you DNA.

Introduce Higher Doses of Antioxidants

Antioxidants are vital to a healthy skin care regime. Powerful antioxidants help to defend against environmental triggers that can cause pigmentation. Free radical cause chronic damage to your skin cells but antioxidants can neutralise these dangerous molecules. We recommend introducing either ‘ZO Ossential Brightalive Non-Retinol Skin Brightener’ or ‘ZO Medical C-Bright Serum’ into you skin routine. These products are full of antioxidants to treat hyperpigmentation and sun damage whilst brightening and improving the skins texture.

Use Sun Protection

Protection from sun exposure is the best method of preventing skin damage and premature ageing. You’ll have heard it a million times but when you are exposed to the sun protect yourself by wearing a hat and sunglasses and keep in the shade as much as possible!

When you are on holiday SPF should be the core product in your skin routine! Nothing protects your skin better from the sun so keep reapplying your SPF throughout the day for maximum protection.  If you are less than enthusiastic about applying sticky, breakout-inducing SPFs remember not all SPFs are made equal! The latest formulas are as smart and sophisticated as your favourite moisturiser, eliminating the usual drawbacks – white streaks, greasy residue, unflattering tints, and delivering next-level skin benefits.
